The THA curriculum

A clear focus. A different challenge for every player.

THA uses monthly coaching themes to give sessions a shared developmental focus while allowing coaches to adapt challenge for each age group and individual player.

Why monthly themes?

Structure gives development a clear focus.

THA uses a yearly coaching curriculum with monthly themes to give sessions a shared developmental focus. It helps coaches and players return to important ideas over time, with repetition, progression and purposeful challenge.

A shared theme does not mean every group receives the same session. Coaches adapt the detail to the age, experience and needs of the players in front of them.

One theme, different challenges

The same focus can feel different at every stage.

Monthly themes give THA a shared direction while keeping delivery age- and stage-appropriate. These examples describe the approach, not a fixed set of monthly exercises.

  1. Ages 2–4

    Parent & Toddler

Playful discovery and confidence with the ball.

  2. Ages 5–7

    Beginner

Building foundations through simple, engaging challenges.

  3. Ages 5–7

    Advanced

    More detailed challenge and decision-making.

  4. Ages 8–11

    Beginner

    Developing understanding, confidence and execution.

  5. Ages 8–11

    Advanced

Greater detail, pressure and game-related decision-making.

How development unfolds

Ideas can be revisited, explored and applied.

A monthly focus gives coaches a useful starting point. They can revisit ideas, increase the challenge and adapt sessions as players develop, rather than forcing every group through an identical sequence.

Individual development within a group

A shared focus. The right challenge for each player.

Monthly themes do not mean every player receives exactly the same challenge. Coaches can adapt difficulty, space, time, pressure, decision-making challenge and the support or detail they provide.

This helps THA create purposeful group sessions while still responding to individual players, their confidence and their development.

Connected to Player Metrics

A shared focus, informed by individual development.

Monthly Themes provide a shared developmental focus. Player Metrics help coaches understand how individual players are progressing and what challenge or support may be appropriate.

They complement one another, without suggesting every theme maps directly to one specific metric.
