THA Football Centre is provided by the Football Coaching Company “The Holmshaw Academy LTD“ registered in England and Wales.
The Holmshaw Academy was founded by Simon, Sam & Ethan Holmshaw with the purpose to coach children in football from a young age and oversee their development into stages of Youth football. This is achieved by delivering sessions that encourage children to engage in exploration, experimentation and fun.
Background
Our founder’s Simon, Sam and Ethan Holmshaw are all passionate football coaches involved in both senior and junior sport. In 2009, Simon decided to set up a junior football club in Sheffield. Simon felt he could help develop them, and other boys & girls from the local community who had not been fortunate to be able to play in organised football to become better players, and better people.
Years later his two sons, Sam & Ethan became involved with the coaching process at the club. For the last 12 years, the trio has coached together on various different projects within both the Sheffield and Leeds areas.
Simon, Sam and Ethan all have a passion for coaching, creating environments that allow participants to grow as both people and players, something they have taken with them everywhere they have coached.
In 2020, after just short of 30 years coaching experience collectively in grassroots amateur and academy level football, the trio decided to set up their own football school for children in Leeds.
Purpose
In our opinion, too many children football sessions do not offer players opportunities to experience creativity and adaptability, in which are two extremely important elements to the football game.
Our coaching sessions and behaviours are designed to allow players to be creative and experiment, let them make mistakes, explore on the pitch and help produce players that are competent to play in every position on the football pitch, in order to attempt to create ‘the all-rounded football player‘.
Meet the Directors
Ethan Holmshaw – Operations Director
Ethan Holmshaw is the operations director at THA. Ethan has been a football coach for 8 years, starting his coaching journey as an assistant coach aged just 14 at a grass roots club.
Ethan is currently studying MSc Sports Coaching Degree at Leeds Beckett University and is Manager both the Leeds Beckett Ladies 1’s team and the Open Age Ladies Team at Horsforth St Margaret’s.
Simon Holmshaw – Managing Director
Simon Holmshaw is the Managing Director at THA. Simon also is the owner of a Health & Safety business, Simon started coaching over 15 years ago when he started out as a parent-coach at a junior football club to help out with his son Jacob’s team.
Simon holds a wealth of experience in coaching youth football. His personal philosophy has always been to give players a chance, no matter their ability. Simon has always believed to never give up on players, and cites his enjoyment at “seeing 16-year-old lads being able to play competitive football, who previously had little or no experience.
Sam Holmshaw – Technical Director
Sam Holmshaw is the Technical Director at THA. Sam has been a Football Coach for 10 years and has worked within various grassroots and academy level setting’s within Football.
Sam has just recently completed his Masters Degree in Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University.
Sam is currently a Football Coach and Programme Manager at MLFA Hong Kong and is the Host of ‘The Sports Coaching Podcast’.
Sam is a massive fan of the Ajax philosophy and believes that players should be trained and played in every position throughout their youth development to create ‘all-rounded players’ and help them maximise their potential. Something that has inspired our playing philosophy at The Holmshaw Academy.
